MØAA Disappears into a Fever Dream of Obsession on New Single and Music Video "The One"

MØAA has shared a new single from their forthcoming sophomore LP with the release of “The One,” the latest submergence into the nocturnal dream pop she enshrouds herself with. Jaywalker — the follow-up to her mesmeric shoegaze debut with Euphoric Recall — drops on October 13th via WWNBB Records. You also won’t want to miss her upcoming performance at the intimate Resident in Los Angeles on November 9th.

“The One” traces the chaotic and toxic ways that love can slowly transform into something more akin to reckless obsession. Bathed in the dark allure of MØAA’s entrancing atmospherics, an ebullient glimmer of synths and eerily droning bass and electric riffs mirror the song’s ravishingly bittersweet lament.

“You should know you’re the one for me / Got to be, I suffered yeah,” she sings, her voice aglow with desperation. “I don’t mind, I’ll just run behind / Come to me, remember me.” All the while its pulsating melody urges them frantically forward, gauzy shoegaze only thickening and enhancing their delusions of chasing “the one.”

The new single from MØAA also comes with a music video directed by Eric Luck. Filmed in the forested liminal spaces of the Pacific Northwest, it provides a suitably phantasmagorical vision of the song’s haunting soundscapes. With shots of MØAA and a group of friends driving into the heart of that verdant expanse of tall trees only to hole up in the retro confines of a neon-lit motel — which is where the surreality hits peak David Lynch.
