Happy Women’s Month to those who make this world go round and round.

Last Friday I spent International Women’s Day dancing to the sounds of 2x GRAMMY-Award nominated singer/songwriter/producer and renaissance woman Tayla Parx as she closed out touring with the genre-blending powerhouse of Zimbabwean-Australian origin Tkay Maidza for the “Sweet Justice Tour” at the El Rey Theatre.

The evening was filled with Maidza’s infectious laughter, a melodic medley of Parx writing credits, including “Special Affair” by The Internet and “Love Lies” by Khalid and Normani, red roses, crowd surfing, a surprise appearance from LA-based musician Duckwrth and homage to self-reflection and discovery.

You might have heard of Tayla Parx, real name Taylor Park, from her acting on The Walking Dead. Perhaps you remember her Nickelodeon sitcom days. Maybe you know her from her work with Ariana Grande and BTS. Or possibly you are an OG Fan and have “TAYLAMADE” still in rotation.

But beyond Parx’s pen game behind the scenes, her presence on stage is undeniable. As she expressed her gratitude for fans being around throughout her career journey, she got up close and personal about her recent breakup, her many moons and many suns, and how giving yourself flowers is essential.

Let’s all remember this: why must we wait until a special moment or even death to receive /give accolades where they are? Let’s all enjoy them now while you can.

She shines effortlessly, whether she has a guitar in her hand or a mic to her lips. If you were in attendance on March 8th you left with some new favorites. Mine, “For What It’s Worth,” and “RICH,” two up-tempo tracks filled with sunkissed 2000 club&B vibes that left the crowd on their feet grooving and ready for a night out with friends. No date yet for a new album but it’s in the works and we all know that she’s got some writing and producer credits floating around no matter what. One thing she is going to do is keep working.

Until then stream her November 2023 release “Celebration Weight.”

Happy Women’s Month, everyone. Let us all continue to support these artists all year long. Who are some of your favorite Women in music right now?
