Silvana Estrada and Cécile McLorin Salvant, two illustrious musicians and storytellers, will take the stage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday, May 31st. When the 2023-2024 season was first announced, we spotlighted this performance as one of its many must-see concerts: a night of theatricality and musical wonder, one that will leave you clinging to every word and beat. Tickets for the concert are currently $64-149. You can also enter our giveaway to win a pair!

The night begins with Estrada on her Venezuelan cuatro guitar — she previously performed alongside Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil for the return of Canto en resistencia back in November — singing songs of cathartic liberation. As a singer/songwriter, composer, and visual artist she is a veritable multi-hyphenate who has honed her ability as a performer alongside the likes of Natalia Lafourcade, Andrew Bird, and Devendra Banhart.

In 2022, she shared her debut album Marchita, an intricately poetic revelation of the heart that featured a host of lovelorn songs like “La Corriente” and “Tristeza.” Apart from the dazzling instrumentals that flicker and punctuate her music’s breathtaking emotionality, there is the spellbinding splendor of her delicate inflection. Recent singles “Amor Eterno” and “Milagro y Desastre” offer just a taste of the depthless well of life and culture that informs her songs. Those in attendance this May will witness first-hand why she was named Best New Artist at the Latin Grammys a few years ago.

Salvant will offer a similarly eclectic gathering through her presentations of vaudeville, blues, and folk traditions. Winner of the 2010 Thelonius Monk competition and a three-time Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Vocal Album — The Window, Dreams and Daggers, For One To Love — she is renowned for the theatricality with which she delivers meldings of jazz and baroque styles.

Through Nonesuch Records she has released two albums: the diaristic Ghost Song, following it up with a retelling of European folklore via French and Haitian Creole on Mélusine. Any concert with Salvant at its center is going to immerse its audience in a sweepingly urgent and transcendent array of musical history.
