On the first night of Charli XCX’s and Troye Sivan’s sold-out “Sweat” tour at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, the UK artist didn’t seem too happy with the fact that fans on the floor were relatively lackluster when she played her 2012 hit song “I Love It” by Swedish synth-pop duo, Icona Pop where Charli is the featured artist vocals.

“Are you fucking joking?” Charlie shouted to fans on the floor, who were silent during the song’s iconic chorus.

Arms wide open, the brat Summer artist seemed visibly annoyed. Or was she?

In 2012, when Charli XCX performed the iconic song in Germany, she was greeted by a lackluster crowd when she performed the banger, “I Love It.” Charli called out the crowd and said,” I thought this f*ckin’ song was big in Germany! What the f*ck are you doing?!”

At her first night at the Kia Forum, on Tuesday, Oct. 15th, Charli called out the Los Angeles crowd in a similar fashion. Charli stood on the stage with open arms as she tried to hear her fans sing the familiar chorus to no raucous avail. “Are you f*cking joking,” she yelled. “C’mon!” she motioned as she strutted across the stage in her black stilleto thigh-high boots. “L.A., are you f*ckin’ serious? Put your f*ckin’ hands up and jump!”

Some fans argue it’s just a bit, and she does this to work the crowd. While other fans who were at the concert, specifically in the front rows of the pit, rebuttal that some of the pit crowd were boring AF.

Other fans said she does not do this at every show, especially with the level of pauses at the LA gig. She does this when the crowd needs a little rallying.

@veesass Because why were @Troye Sivan and @Charli XCX begging the pit to sing the entire night! This is why going to shows in LA kills me sometimes – everyone is “too cool” to sing or dance. The real fans were in the risers having the time of their lives! #sweattour #charlixcx #brat #bratsummer #apple #appledance #concerts ♬ original sound – veesass travels

Numerous videos surfaced on TikTok from her LA shows showing the crowd going wild in the seats, significantly higher up in the nosebleeds. And as any avid concert-goer knows, the party is always in the nosebleeds aka the cheapest seats.

Throughout the comments on various TikTok and Instagram videos, fans commented that it’s because Gen Z only cares about #BratSummer, and most aren’t familiar with her early catalog. Some claimed that many fans in the front were Gen Z, whose wealthy parents bought their high-priced premium tickets. Had it been the folks in the nosebleeds, an “I Love It” riot would have ensued.

So, was Charli annoyed at LA fans?

Last night at night 2 of Charli XCX’s Kia Forum performances in Los Angeles, she playfully yelled: “LAaaaaa! Now look, you don’t want to be like Night 1, do you?”

After pausing, she follows with, “I’m kidding, they were so cute … “

My opinion: I will go with the majority of comments from our Grimy Goods community, who tend to be more seasoned than your typical Gen Z concert-goer and who have been fans of Charli for well over a decade. Many of whom attended her 2012 performance at Club Nokia when she was the opening act for Santigold (which we covered, btw). I do think she was annoyed at night 1 fans in the front lines and called them out in the way that she is known to be: fierce but playful.
