Best New Songs Released in March 2025
Rachel Chinouriri “Can we talk about Isaac?”
Although she’s currently in the thick of touring, including an opening slot for Sabrina Carpenter, English singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri can’t help but think about one thing with her latest single, “Can we talk about Isaac?” To the sound of a wailing guitar that gradually comes into play, “Can we talk about Isaac?” slaps into gear with the help of jumpy drums and a bassline to keep the euphoric puppy love going throughout. While indie rock is just about everywhere, what’s rarer nowadays is the kind that’s unabashedly joyous in its emotionality. Read More
L.A. Witch “The Lines”
In true L.A. Witch fashion, a brooding bass opens up their latest single, “The Lines,” perfectly. The trio, always ones to deliver songs that infectiously rock, prove within the first few seconds of “The Lines” their allegiance to the genre. With juiced-up drums and a dark yet jangly guitar dueling with one another before a word is even uttered, once the vocals come into the picture, the calvary is complete. Read More
ARTISTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
BEST NEW MUSIC
Samara Cyn with Sherwyn “Pop n Olive”
It may be their first time working together, but Samara Cyn and LA-based singer and producer Sherwyn make the most of their newest collaboration, “Pop n Olive.” Produced by Two Fresh, Cyn lets her unique brand of hip-hop take a backseat in favor of a smooth alternative slow seduction backed by Sherwyn’s punchlines. While the two trade pleasantries about unspecified love interests, they opt to play it cool, contrasting the velveteen instruments fitting for an impassioned vocalist but repurposed for catchy bars.

N8NOFACE with Stu Brooks “Something Might Get Killed”
As one of seven tracks from their latest collaborative album, Bad Man Back Again, out via Sin Cara Records, N8NOFACE and Stu Brooks brought the heat with their aptly titled onslaught of a song, “Something Might Get Killed.” Brooks, who serves as producer, lays down a fast-paced beat for N8NOFACE to raise hell over, complimenting the razor-sharp synths, which sound as though they’re grinding up against each other. But despite the heavy distortion and electronic instrumentation, “Something Might Get Killed” couldn’t be any more punk. Read More
Cuco with Jean Carter “My 45”
If you’re familiar with Cuco’s catalog, be sure to throw away any preconceived notion out the window before hearing his latest collaboration with Jean Carter, “My 45.” As the latest single from Ridin’, out May 9 via Interscope Records, Cuco continues to go further into a soulful direction reminiscent of the oldies you’d hear on full blast around LA. He and Carter, who later delivers a tasteful rap verse in the second half, sing their hearts out over lavish production led by a brass section that strikes a perfect balance between the retro and the modern. St. Vincent “DOA” (From ‘Death of a Unicorn’)
Literally and figuratively hot off of last year’s All Born Screaming, St. Vincent is keeping busy while in the midst of touring with “DOA,” a new song for and inspired by the new A24 movie, “Death of a Unicorn.” Unlike the alt-rock that was heard on her last LP, “DOA” turns to dark electronica, with 80s-inspired synths and bass that would sound right at home on the “Miami Vice” soundtrack. Little Simz “Free”
Very few modern hip-hop artists can consistently deliver top-notch albums at the rate Little Simz has been going for nearly a decade, and her upcoming album, Lotus, out via AWAL Recordings, is expected to continue that trend based on her latest single, “Free.” With a soulful refrain that encapsulates the celebration of love at the center of “Free,” Simz breaks down the importance of love in a stream-of-consciousness flow that once again solidifies her as among the best lyricists out right now. Midnight Generation with Zimmer90 “Teacher”
Mexico’s Midnight Generation, always the type to know how to tastefully pay homage to bygone eras while taking music into the future, are back with their latest album, Teacher. The title track, featuring Zimmer90, takes after genres ranging from surf rock to 70s disco at a brisk pace. But the five-piece knows when to slow matters down when needed, allowing the impassioned vocals to take an already successful track to new heights as the pristine production takes a backseat. Xiuhtezcatl with Renata Flores “SÍGUEME”
Following the release of his 2024 EP, Donde, activist/singer-songwriter Xiuhtezcatl, has joined forces with Renata Flores on an equally powerful release, “SÍGUEME.” Although Xiuhtezcatl’s music typically falls into hip-hop, strictly calling it that would be selling the strong, eco and social message at the core of “SÍGUEME.” Both he and Flores trade verses over the pulsating R&B production, which seeks to soothe rather than disrupt or serve as a call to arms. It’s a fitting decision, with the Spanish and Nahuatl lyrics paying tribute to the “Americas” and the people who first inhabited those lands. Read More
