Our favorite witch has returned.
Florence + the Machine just dropped “Everybody Scream,” and it is bone-chilling and thrilling. Like a ritual whispered into the night, then cranked up to cathedral‑level reverberation, Florence Welch sings about running herself “ragged, blood on the stage.“ The lyrics speak to her unwavering commitment to her art, which at times can be reckless and painful.
The foreboding title track off her forthcoming album, Everyboy Scream, reminds of when Florence broke her foot during a wild stage dive at Coachella 2015; however, that didn’t stop her because she was right back at it just a few months later, jumping and levitating on her How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful Tour. Florence broke her foot again during her performance at the O2 Arena in London in 2022, as part of her Dance Fever tour. The surgery that followed, Florence described as “lifesaving.” Her recovery took her through spiritual mysticism, witchcraft, and folk horror as she felt the limits of her body and explored what it means to be “healed.”
“But how can I leave you when you’re screaming my name?”
Florence commands with haunting grace: the echo of her voice entwines with a choir that feels summoned, not sung, propelling you into a cathartic frenzy of complete release.
Ahead of the goodbump-inducing chorus, Florence sings: “She gives me everything (Love), I feel no pain, I break down, get up (No), do it all again…” It’s as though Florence is under a self-induced spell when she takes the stage as fans cheer for her. Her lyrics tell a story of her passion and commitment to her performance, which is both magical and full of misery.
This isn’t just a new song—it’s a goddamn revelation.
The witchcraft, the medicine, the spells and the injections
The harvest, the needle protect me from evil
The magic and the misery, madness and the mystery
Oh, what has it done to me?

The new song arrives with a visual that is cinematic madness, thanks to Autumn de Wilde’s direction. Pure folklore fever dream—Florence swathed in a blood‑red dress, prowling through the countryside like a modern-day oracle as possessed bodies convulse and crumble around her (including IDLES’ Mark Bowen).
Florence + the Machine’s sixth studio album, Everybody Scream, will be summoned this Halloween. Florence wrote and produced the album over the past two years with the aforementioned Mark Bowen, Aaron Dessner, and Mitski. According to a press release, the album treads through womanhood, partnership, aging and dying; exposing the murky in the mundane.
Everybody Scream features 12 songs and is available to pre-order now on vinyl, CD, and cassette. Fans can also order a chamber version of the album, which will include four exclusive chamber versions.
