Rapper Pigeon John and singer-songwriter Cobi come together for a retro-flavored single, “Here I Come!”
Best known for his 2010 track, “The Bomb,” Pigeon John is the moniker of John Kenneth Dust, a California rapper and former LA Symphony member, coming off his 2024 album, Hello Revelation. On the other end of the collaboration, Minnesotan native Cobi is more aligned with singer-songwriter material of the heart-wrenching variety.
While the two may make an unlikely pairing, Pigeon John and Cobi revel in the fusion of funk and pop that makes it seem so seamless, you would’ve thought the song came from a preexisting project. Although Cobi is mostly on backing vocals, his imprint is unmistakable as Pigeon John dishes out verse after verse.
Among the track’s strong suits is its ability to remain an empowering anthem. From the march-worthy drums to the infectious chorus, it’s not hard to imagine “Here I Come!” being used as a warm-up soundtrack.
The songwriting courtesy of Pigeon John is similarly liberating in tone, with lines like “Had the blues, but I shook them loose” and “Let the wind blow through my roof” cementing how nothing can stop him as he goes “All out” on commitment and devotion to music.
Considering both artists come from two sides of the industry – not to mention with sonically different music – the fact that their collaboration melds their sounds as smoothly as it does is a testament to their shared talent.
