What We Love About Desert Daze
Grimy Goods has been covering Desert Daze since its inception as Moon Block Party back in 2012. We’ve seen the festival shapeshift and evolve into all that it has become today, with each year getting bigger and better while staying true to its mission of delivering a vibey experience unlike any other with “sonically diverse artists from the worlds of psych rock, hip hop, electronic, jazz, and more.”
This year there’s more to Desert Daze than just an incredibly diverse lineup that melds everything from psych-rock to indie heroes and pop/electronica. Several special appearances/events will take place throughout the festival in 2024: Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill will share a reading of her bestselling memoir “Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk,” as well as a conversation with Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta; a curated round of performances by Gold Diggers featuring Makaya Mccraven, Jeff Parker, Tommy Guerrero, and Carina Round; and a Jazz Is Dead showcase with Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, and Adrian Younge.
There will also be a pair of anniversary celebrations by Death From Above 1979—who will perform You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine to commemorate its 20th anniversary— and Temples will dust off their debut Sun Structures for its 10th birthday.
