Indonesian R&B duo Galdive continues to push against genre restrictions through the title track to their sophomore album, Blue, out via Mom+Pop. Composed of singer-songwriter Tisha and composer/producer Osvaldo, Galdive is not the sort of project that seeks to repeatedly make the same song, managing to fuse different influences while adding in instruments ranging from the standard R&B arsenal to those from Indonesia.

“Blue” is no exception to their genre-bending, at first laying down an R&B foundation – complete with a steady groove and stripped-back instruments adding to the mellow atmosphere indicative of its title – before gradually incorporating other genres around Tisha’s vocals.

Within the first minute, elements of jazz and electronic music make their way into the background, whether it’s gentle piano keys or fluttering pulses. From there, the “Our love has never felt so blue” refrain gets digitized, chopped up, and pitched to varying volumes, showing how Osvaldo stretches the instrumental in all kinds of directions.

Although Galdive began as a simple collaboration between Tisha and Osvaldo, their first few singles quickly grew into a proper project for the two, where their fusion of genres brings out the best of both artists.
