You know an artist will have longevity when they have no problem pushing themselves out of their comfort zone, which happens to be the case on the new song from Melody’s Echo Chamber and El Michels Affair, “Daisy.”

Melody Prochet, the singer-songwriter behind the project, quickly became one of the leading faces of psych-rock’s revival in the 2010s. But on “Daisy,” her newest single since 2022’s Emotional Eternal, she takes on a different sound that remains in the same neighborhood as her initial inspirations that set her off on her self-titled album in 2012.

“‘Daisy’ started as a daydream while listening to Leon’s finest music,” said Prochet. “I reached out to him, and we instantly created this sweet overlapping zone—like an invisible playground between our worlds. It’s a privilege to have made this one together!”

Contrary to the lyrics tackling time passing you by, “Daisy” is a burst of sunlight in song that conjures up images of spring and summer as the year moves closer to the cold. The difference between the sunny instrumentation and what Prochet sings about, mainly about the empty feeling after a relationship, is enough to prove how locked-in the artists are.

Leon Michels, who’s been on a winning streak producing for artists like Clairo and Kali Uchis, brings his ear for ‘70s-inspired production to “Daisy.” The resulting sound is a seamless blend between Prochet’s dreamy psychedelia and Michels’ retro quality, evident in the recording and ensemble of instruments.
