Los Angeles free summer concerts season is a reflection of the diversity of the city. The Skirball Cultural Center as part of their Sunset Concerts is featuring artists from across the globe and LA’s own. This time it was the turn of Peter Mawanga, a multi-talented artist and humanitarian from Malawi. While his performance was exceptional, it was unfortunate his band could not join him due to  visa issues … regardless, the session players did a great job standing in, helping to illuminate the shining star that is Mawanga and his words.

Throughout the show, Mawanga shared stories of his native country, where GPS are replaced for human contact and people still say hello to each other on the streets. The warmth of his background mixed with soothing vocals gave the evening a special charm. All those who attended can attest to the love and positivity that filled the Skirball.
