Diane Coffee has released a new song titled “Like a Child Does.” Along with the new track comes tour dates with a Los Angeles gig at Teragram Ballroom!
It’s been a long time since Diane Coffee’s debut record, My Friend Fish. As Grimy Goods described when it was first released, the album was a reliable vacation soundtrack, with a simultaneously hazy and punchy take on sixties pop-rock. Shaun Fleming, the force behind the project, has since drifted from his roots in Foxygen toward a synthier style, yet has retained the gift for earworms.
Listen to Diane Coffee’s new single “Like a Child Does” below and see the band perform at the Teragram Ballroom in June.
As the visualizer suggests, Fleming is reaching into the future with pop-falsetto meant to transcend. Fans of Robyn and Miike Snow will appreciate similarities to Diane Coffee’s latest, which is filled with lasers of melodies, aimed directly at your heart. As accusatory as the title seems, Fleming is actually working through some feelings in “Like a Child Does,” and he never quite comes to terms with them. “I guess I’m not fine with it,” he mutters over the bridge. Acting a fool will only get you so far…probably.
