CRX share electric new single / video “Falling” off new record Peek

CRX has announced the arrival of their second album Peek next month and have shared the single “Falling” from its tracklisting. An electronic-rock split between lavish synth-riff melodies and glam-rock wailing, “Falling” is as much a neon-tinted throwback piece as it is a modern collision of various genre tastes. It’s all shimmering croons via Nick Valensi—backed by a ton of ferociously giddy guitar and bass work from Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley respectively—with Ralph Alexander on drums and Brad Oberhofer painting it red with those sizzling synth keys.

As lead guitarist for The Strokes, Valensi has always brought the kind of unabashed extravagance to CRX that was responsible for keeping pace with Julian Casablancas’ own flare and the hot licks of his co-guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.

On “Falling” Valensi holds his own as—vocally at least—the linchpin for CRX. But with their sophomore entry Peek Valensi has taken a step back, going from auteur to collaborator with the other artists he’s pulled to play with him.

“The influence of Darian and Jon was prevalent in the recording and arrangement,” Valensi says of the creation of the album. “I was more controlling on the first record. This is everybody in a room.”
