Reveling in the fact that everyone is flawed, and sometimes taking the high road isn’t worth the effort for person in front of you, Transviolet pour every bitter feeling into their blunt, but vindicated new single “Makes Me Happy.” A pop-laced upbeat stunner about seeing someone who hurt you now feeling regret, ”Makes Me Happy” doesn’t wish for a fairytale ending where lovers are reunited. Instead, Transviolet’s Sarah McTaggart sings about the joy she gets from knowing a toxic person is feeling the pain of her absence. And after what he put her through, it’s what he deserves. With no intentions of relieving this individual from his misery, McTaggart croons with cool vocals and even makes sure to note she’s not waiting for a phone call or apology. She’s simply happy knowing karma came full circle.
Transviolet consists of McTaggart, producer and bassist Mike Panek, Jon Garcia on drums, and Judah McCarthy on guitar and keys. After several years together, the band has been making waves with their cool indie-pop music, all self-written, self-mixed, self-released, and their out-of-the-box promotional tactics (like sending manilla envelopes with cassette tapes of their new single). Growing over the past few years, both internally and with outside support from the likes of Twenty-One Pilots, LANY, Dua Lipa, Joywave and more. Transviolet note they feel primed to make some of the best music of their life.
In addition to new tunes this year, the band is also slated to go on tour with Mother Mother and Sir Sly in the fall with tour dates in San Diego (Nov. 2 at Soma), San Francisco (the Masonic on Nov. 6) and in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium on Nov. 5. Grab tickets here.
