Caroline Polachek Feat. Weyes Blood “Butterfly Net”
First up is the long-awaited release of “Butterfly Net” from indie-pop anomaly Caroline Polachek, a rework of the song she and the ethereally voiced Weyes Blood debuted at a string of concerts last summer. She’s also revealed it as one of the tracks off the forthcoming deluxe version of her sophomore album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You: Everasking Edition which arrives next week on Valentine’s Day.
It’s impossible to understate the enchanting effects conjured by a duet between these two; their luminous vocals rising and entwining like melodic wisps of wind illuminated by warm sunbeams. Together they offer a sublime vision of romantic yearning coaxed to life by refulgent strings: “There you were / With your mirror / Shining the world all over me,” the edges of Polachek’s euphonious cries warping as they leap. “There I was / With my butterfly net / Trying to catch your light.”
Gushing and aglow with beatific emotion and imagery — the kind you thought you’d only ever encounter in a piece of 19th-century Romantic poetry — “Butterfly Net” weaves its ardent feeling into a crystalline web of sound that’ll you want to stay wrapped in for all eternity.
Desire, I Want to Turn Into You: Everasking Edition the new deluxe album from Caroline Polachek is out on February 14th via Perpetual Novice/The Orchard. Head to her website and Instagram so you don’t miss a thing!

Noah Pope “endless questions”
Noah Pope wanders a lilting folk soundscape making inquiries of a lover turned-memory on his new single “endless questions.” With vocals that echo the gleaming beauty of Youth Lagoon and a sound that steadily rocks between a Whitney–boygenius hybrid — the Nashville-based singer/songwriter is proving to be a beguiling new voice with each release. His latest is a short but deeply poignant meander of abstract retrospection, one that proceeds stalwart but weary through a tumble of resonant acoustics. As the song’s dusty but lucent melody unearths the unspoken pains of a long-buried broken heart.

ARTISTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
BEST NEW MUSIC

Phoebe Go “7 Up”
Australian indie rocker Phoebe Go returns on her first single of the year with the release of “7 Up.” A punchy number darting with twanging riffs and coy frustration, the track comes amid her current tour through North America supporting Briston Maroney and if you can you absolutely must catch her live. Because if you’re a fan of driving anthems fueled by robust rhythms and intimately sprawling lyricism then this is right up your alley.
The single is completed by a music video directed/edited by Joe Agius that finds Phoebe and her band hammering out its lovelorn melody against a vintage backdrop of American fast-food and restaurant signs — before it transforms into a series of stunning vistas, from a purple-orange sunset to a paradisal beachfront. Its visuals accentuate the particular heartache that comes with losing the one you love to a whole other country.
