Boygenius had fans across Southern California and beyond up-in-arms for a golden ticket to their not-so-secret acoustic set of shows at The Smell in downtown Los Angeles. Adding to the list of many artists performing small club shows during GRAMMYs week, the boys played two very special acoustic shows ahead of their GRAMMYs appearance this Sunday.

The adored trio, boygenius — made up of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus — is up for six GRAMMYs, tying the likes of Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish and more.

It’s pretty wild for us to see these talented singer/songwriters and musicians grow to such worldwide fame. It seems like only yesterday we were covering Phoebe Bridgers at small venues like the Lodge Room and The Troubadour, Lucy Dacus at The Echo and Teragram Ballroom, and Julien Baker at SXSW and the El Rey — and of course, boygenius in 2018 at the Wiltern.

Making fans swoon with tears of joy in their eyes, boygenius performed an early show acoustic set including songs like “We’re In Love,” “Anti-Curse” and Bridgers’ “Graceland Too” (sung by Dacus).

Those tears of joy quickly turned into sadness when boygenius, according to the fan page @boygeniussource (on Instagram and X, formerly witter), announced, “we’re going away for the foreseeable future”

Dacus also shared, “this is our last show, and we’re feeling it”

Before the band played their tear-inducing hit “Not Strong Enough,” — Dacus shared, “this is our last song.” To the joy of fans, Baker made sure to add, “not EVER.”

Boygenius played both an early show and a late show. Thankfully for fans who couldn’t score that lucky golden ticket, @boygeniussource live-streamed the second set via Instagram.
