With a new song out and an album underway, The Black Keys are back at it and ready for a tour this fall. The “Let’s Rock” tour will take the band to 31 cities across the United States including a Los Angeles stop at the Forum on Nov. 19. Supporting The Black Keys at the Forum are Modest Mouse and Shannon and the Clams. Now that’s a kick-ass lineup.
Bandmates Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have both worked on successful solo and side projects since the band’s last album, Turn Blue. Auerbach has busy releasing solo work and establishing his record label Easy Eye Sound, which bolsters acts such as Shannon Shaw, Shannon Shaw and the Clams and Robert Finley, while Carney has produced and recorded new music with various artists as well as co-writing the theme song to Netflix’s BoJack Horseman.
Though both have been plenty busy, their return to making music together could not have been more seamless. “Lo/Hi,” their first release since 2014, carries the same punch and power as their earlier work but with the volume carefully cranked to a new level of noise. It’s distorted and warped, and dressed to impress with all the potency of pure rock n’ roll. The feel of the song is only amplified by the fuzzy, retro graphics used in the song’s music video, a nod to the classic garage rock bands of your dad’s youth.
“Lo/Hi” catches the attention of music critics and fans alike for its classic, cool sound and uniquely Black Keys touch that makes it a song worth blasting out loud. It’s a song any generation with a sense of style can understand, and it’s easy to rock out to.
