With Rage Against The Machine headlining at Coachella 2020, Los Angeles fans who don’t want to endure the bull shit of going to Coachella will have to wait to see Rage Against the Machine in Los Angeles.
Is Rage Against The Machine going to play in Los Angeles? That’s the golden question ever since the iconic LA-based band announced its Coachella spot and world tour dates. Rage Against the Machine is from Los Angeles! Of course they’re going to play our great city, but when? The last time we caught Rage Against the Machine in Los Angeles was in 2011 at the LA Coliseum; before that it was at the Hollywood Palladium in 2010.
For those who don’t know, most bands, especially headliners that perform at Coachella sign a contract that includes a radius clause that pretty much makes sure the band does not play a certain amount of miles from Coachella until a set amount of time passes. In other words, Rage Against the Machine wont be able to perform in Los Angeles until their radius clause expires. That can be 3 months after Coachella, 6 months after, or more. It all depends on what was agreed upon in terms of exclusivity.
There is a silver lining for Rage Against the Machine fans in Los Angeles. Goldenvoice, the makers of Coachella, love to gift their home of Los Angeles with surprises. Right around Coachella time, Goldenvoice usually throws in some surprise “secret” shows with Coachella acts performing in the LA area. We’ve seen this with Gorillaz and we’ve seen this with Refused. The promoter is also notorious for announcing their slew of Coachella side shows.
Let’s all hope Rage Against The Machine play one of those surprise secret shows in LA! Or a Coachella side show! And if they don’t, patience is the name of the game, friends. Rage Against the Machine WILL play LA. It’s just a matter of time.
In the meantime, if you can’t wait for Rage Against the Machine to perform in Los Angeles. We highly recommend you check them out in Oakland, Arizona, Portland, or any other nearby tour dates. The band will be touring with none other than Run The Jewels! Now that is quite the prolific combo. See the full list of Rage Against the Machine tour dates below.
Tickets to Rage Against the Machine go on sale Thursday, Feb. 13 as early as 9am in some states. Those Oakland tickets go on sale at 11am. Check out the full list below.
