Gary Clark Jr. is one of the best blues-rock artists of of modern times
Every fan of blues and guitar rock must witness the rip-roaring energy and soul of Gary Clark Jr. at least once in their lifetime. We’ve been fans of Clark since his early days back when he was performing for intimate crowds at the Hotel Cafe or It’s A School Night at Bardot—we even had the chance to chat with him at SXSW 2011. This was before the release of his seminal debut Blak and Blu (2012) and the launching of his Grammy Award-winning career, yet it was clear even then from his live performances alone that Clark was destined to become America’s number one guitar virtuoso and a champion of rock versatility, melding together everything from blues, classic rock, and R&B, with hip-hop’s inflection. Over the years we’ve had the privilege to see him at the Troubadour and the Fonda Theatre—and every single time he’s blown us away.

You’ll have the chance to experience his new album JPEG RAW live
After capturing the pressing urgency, turmoil, and rage of Black Americans facing a tide of emboldened racism in This Land (2019), Clark returned five years later with his fourth studio album JPEG RAW. The record continues the songwriter’s talent for articulating the strife and anxiety created by racial prejudices and tensions, though this time he hitches his words to deeply soulful and heavy melodies. Attendees can expect him to draw from his entire catalog but this one—with its sizzlingly bittersweet instrumentation, groovy ballads, and heady funk—is going to be a real treat to hear live.
