King of lo-fi Eyedress has spent much of this year releasing nothing but alluring jams, a process that’s attracted the attention and fostered collaboration with two indie icons. First came back-to-back singles with Mac DeMarco“Dark Prince” and “My Simple Jeep” — and not long after that he teamed-up with The Marías for their spacey slow-dancer “Separate Ways.” The latter arriving as a deeply entrancing match made in soulful synth heaven and a simmering soundtrack for a still raw heartbreak.

On “Separate Ways” both Eyedress and María Zardoya trade lovelorn vocals over a steady stream of glimmering electronica and radiant riffs. Their voices sodden with the weight of their own grief, the track intersects the pair’s shared talent for embodying the doleful but mesmerizing intimacy of such sweet sorrow. “Hated that we went our separate ways / Maybe we just need some time to change,” they coo as gloaming memories of love are illuminated by phosphorescent synths. “Maybe in the future I could stay.”

The single is joined by a whacky claymation music video directed and animated by PRTND Studios. In it clay versions of both Eyedress and Zardoya are abducted by aliens — leaving behind the former’s family to try and rescue them from the interstellar antagonists. After pulling their rocketship out of storage they propel themselves up to the spaceship and give a comical beatdown to the alien abductors, freeing the duo in the process.

“Sadie Hawkins Prom” is the latest track to be unveiled by Eyedress — an uptempo and roiling ode to youthful optimism. “Life is fast, don’t let it pass you by / Make sure you don’t waste no time,” he murmurs alongside its jumpily sprinting melody. “Everyone’s just getting old / We’re never gonna be this young again.” Its roiling sonics and guitar lines come together to create a nostalgia-laden anthem of carpe diem proportions.

This track too also comes with a music video, this time directed by Ricky with claymation from ToeJam. Here, Eyedress makes another appearance in his now characteristic sunglasses, waking up to a text reminding him of the dance later that night. Rushing to get dressed he tries on both absurd and suave outfits before settling on all black. Speeding through the red sunset landscape he comes to a literal fork in the road as he agonizes over being late — shenanigans ensue as he narrowly misses a date with death after soaring off a cliff — though in the end he makes it to prom on time.
