UPDATE: Coachella might be postponed until October, 2020.

There’s rumors floating around that Coachella 2020 is going to be canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Even our sources tell us that some serious executive conversations are being had right now. With the recent news that SXSW had to cancel their upcoming music, film and tech conference — for the first time in 34 years — it’s more than likely that Coachella will follow en suite. With that said, if Coachella shuts its gates, this can lead to all other major music festival across the globe cancelling their festival dates.

Coronovirus is already in Coachella Valley

Most recently reported, Riverside County health officials have announced three new cases of the coronavirus in the Coachella Valley. This is definitely alarming everyone from stakeholders to fans of the iconic music festival.

A recent petition had been circulating the digital sphere, urging a Coachella cancelation, and asking folks to “sign the petition and stand with all the lives that are potentially at risk.” The petition is quickly reaching its 15,000-signature goal.

Excerpt from the petition:

As a highly inclusive community, we are responsible to protect each and every community member, which include the ones who are elderly, fragile, or the ones who suffers from chronic diseases, cancer, immune system diseases and other form of disabilities. The lives of these people should not be down-played and we shouldn’t risk their lives since they have a higher chance catching COVID-19 and develop critical situationst that need to be hospitalized.

Grimy Goods put out a couple social polls on Twitter and Instagram Stories to see how our music community felt about canceling Coachella. On both platforms, our readers expressed that Coachella SHOULD be canceled. See some of their responses below (collected via Instagram Stories / Questions, our Instagram post, and Twitter post. Answers below are from fans, citizen of the I.E. and even bands. Names are only shown when answers are public.

“It sucks for the businesses but our medical infrastructure cannot handle a full blown outbreak! Still ten times deadlier than the flu and 20% of patients need hospitalization. We are already fully taxed as is!”

Wash your hands, get your Wet Ones on 24-7, and buy one of these. And please, cough and sneeze into your elbow! You might also want to put those handshakes and hugs on hold too.
